On Friday, 20th December 2024, the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Leigh on Sea came alive with the festive spirit as the community gathered for a heartwarming evening of joy, music, and giving back. The event, held at 7:00 PM, was a beautiful celebration of the holiday season, bringing people together to support two vital local charities: Southend YMCA and BCCS (Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society).
The church was aglow with holiday lights and filled with the sound of carols performed by the incredible Sea of Voices Choir, led by Darrell Binding and Fran McEvoy. Their angelic voices captivated the audience, setting the perfect festive tone for the evening.
Monsignor Kevin Canon Hale of the OLOL Church led the service with heartfelt words, reminding everyone of the importance of kindness and love.
The event was graced by several prominent figures, adding to the evening's significance:
The High Sheriff, who spoke passionately about the importance of supporting local causes.
The Mayor of Southend, bringing festive cheer to all.
David Burton Sampson MP, who emphasised the impact of the work done by Southend YMCA and BCCS.
Their presence underscored the unity of our community in supporting young people and fostering hope for a brighter future.
The evening featured a lively raffle, with fabulous prizes generously donated by local businesses, including the event sponsor Hatton Jewellers, Tesco Thanet Grange and Winkworths. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success. Their efforts, along with the contributions from attendees, helped raise funds to support the vital work of Southend YMCA and BCCS.
After the service, attendees enjoyed delicious refreshments, which provided an opportunity to connect, share stories, and spread holiday cheer. This gathering reminded us of the power of community and the importance of coming together to support meaningful causes.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who attended, contributed, or participated in making this event so special. Your generosity and holiday spirit will make a real difference in the lives of local young people.
