(Southend-On-Sea City Council, 2023)
As a leading youth charity in Southend, we are pleased to see young people in leadership positions and their dedication and commitment to making a difference. The youth are the backbone of our society, with endless potential waiting to be unleashed. Young people's energy, passion, and ideas can shape the future of Southend. Recognising this, youth charities play a crucial role in supporting young people, providing them with opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and civic engagement. By fostering collaboration and encouraging young individuals to take an active role in shaping their communities, youth charities help create a brighter future.
Today, we extend our heartfelt congratulations not only to the Southend’s newly appointed Youth Mayor, Jocelyn Ayao and Deputy Youth Mayor, Josh Hosking but also to their families, friends and the community who have nurtured and supported them on their journey.
In a world that often overlooks the opinions and aspirations of young people, it is a breath of fresh air when youth are given a platform to make their voices heard and shape their communities. Southend YMCA offers such opportunities and celebrates the appointment of Southend's new Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor, who will represent the dreams, concerns, and potential of the youth in our vibrant city.
Our expectation is that beyond their specific roles, Jocelyn Ayao and Josh Hosking will serve as role models, inspiring other young individuals to believe in their abilities. Their leadership will encourage other young people to pursue their passions, engage in civic activities, and make a lasting impact on their communities. Through their dedication, they will foster a culture of active citizenship, empowering the youth to become the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow. They will serve as beacons of hope, empowering the voices of their peers and inspiring countless others to dream big and embrace their potential as future leaders. Let us congratulate them on their well-deserved positions and support them as they pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive Southend.
