1. Sleep Easy launches
The first Sleep Easy, as part of the national YMCA campaign is launched - 70 participants raised just over £10,000 in March 2013 at the event that took place at Southend YMCA's head office, temperatures plummited to -4 degrees.
2. The first local school hosts it's own version of the event
Later that year, Westcliff High School for Girls raised £1,500 at the first of the 'Sleep Easy in Schools' agenda, aiming to raise awareness of youth homelessness in local schools in the Southend Borough. A team of students and teachers took on the challenge, sleeping outside, but within the safety of the school grounds.
3. Year 2 - 100 take part
In March 2014 the main Sleep Easy event return with 100 participants, whilst temperatures didn't hit the below freezing temperatures of previous years, the team did have to deal with wet weather during the night, they raised in excess of £12,000.
4. Local churches support the cause
In July 2014, a youth group from Leigh Road Baptist Church held their own Sleep Easy event within the church grounds, they hosted a range of fundraising activities as part of the event, including a sponsored car wash.
5. Girl Guides join the cause
Girl Guides joined the cause in September 2014, with guides from Billericay, Leigh, Eastwood, Rayleigh and Hadleigh sleeping out in Guideacres in Benfleet.
6. Shoeburyness High raise over £4,000
The second Sleep Easy in Schools took place on the grounds of Shoeburyness High School, organised by the sixth form, it took place in October 2014, and the students raised £4000.
7. 2015 - Will you take on the challenge?
May 16th will see the third annual Sleep Easy, will you take on the challenge for what promises to be our biggest event yet?
