Do you want to make a difference to vulnerable young people this Christmas?
Southend YMCA staff and young people have been hard at work, collaborating to produce a Christmas CD and download to be sold as a fundraiser for the charity. It costs just £5.
There are four tracks on this EP, each one featuring young people from different groups in the town. The first track is the Southend YMCA Choir's original take on 'Away in a Manger' called 'No Crib for a Bed', with their own contemporary lyrics and an edgier rock sound. For the second track, Romi Neale, star student of the SYMCA Music Studio, sings an acoustic version of a song written by her father Steven Neale called 'Alone'. Track three, David Stanley's The Music Man Project, sings the Christmas classic 'Jingle Bells'. For a heart-warming closing number, the children of Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School sing a rendition of 'Go Tell It on the Mountain'.
Syrie Cox, CEO of Southend YMCA, has been working with her team Sacha Edwards and the SYMCA music studio staff, to create this exciting debut EP as a fundraiser for the charity. 'If you buy a copy of our Christmas CD' Syrie explains, 'you will be helping us to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable young people in the Southend area. 'Away in a Manger' is one of the world's most famous Christmas Carols; young people from SYMCA have reinvented the lyrics to call to mind the suffering of children around the world and in our home town.
Southend YMCA is a children's charity which seeks to stand in the gap by providing services which help young people to build their future. SYMCA provides a safe home with bed for between 60 to 70 young people every year and as well as this, SYMCA provides education, positive activities, mentoring, counselling, information and advice and guidance for around 1600 children and young people each year.
All tracks were recorded by the talented team of musicians and technicians at the SYMCA Music Studio. The studio offers free music making for young people who would otherwise struggle to gain access to quality music making activities. This has been made possible by the support of the charity Youth Music. Tracks were mastered by John Hannon of No Recording Studios.
Southend YMCA have been chosen as the Southend Mayor's Charity this year and there will be many exciting events around the town where you could pick up a copy of the CD or buy a download code for your digital copy. You can find these events listed here www.southendmayorscharity.net
